Consistently ranked as one of the top teams in the country, Maxine and Marti Gellens dominate the San Diego County real estate market. The mother-daughter duo claims attention to detail and tenacious negotiating as keys to its success. But judging by their affection for the Village of La Jolla, passion for the area may be at the core of their accomplishments. Here is what The Gellens love most about the epicenter of their buzzing activities.

THE NUTSHELL: “The Village of La Jolla is the heart of La Jolla and is also where our office resides. La Jolla means ‘The Jewel,’ and it truly is the Jewel of San Diego. It’s cozy and quaint, and it’s where most people first visit when coming into town to see the breathtaking ocean cliffs and beaches. Important to mention, La Jolla has one of the best climates in the world. We know because we love to travel, but it is always nice to come back home.”

THE APPEAL: “The beautiful seaside of La Jolla Cove really draws people to see the ocean along with the seals and birds. People also swim and kayak around the cove, where you can see and explore the cliffside caves if the waves aren’t strong that day. Also, we have many world-class restaurants and shops in the area.”

THE HUB: “Our offce is right in the middle of it all, in the Arcade Building on Girard Avenue. You’ll also find us grabbing lunch at one of the many local eateries like Girard Gourmet or shopping on Girard Street.”

THE FANS: “La Jolla is ideal for those who want the convenience of shops, restaurants, and local businesses, while living so close to the ocean. The Village of La Jolla is not far from the University of California, San Diego, the University Town Center mall, and a major technology hub. It’s located centrally along the San Diego coastline.”

THE LANDMARKS: “We have some historical buildings, such as the one where our office resides, built in 1926 by local architect Herbert Palmer. It has a walkway on the bias with arches that make for a great photo shoot location. Another notable spot is the ‘Pink Lady,’ which is home to the La Valencia Hotel. Many celebrities stay there.”

THE HAUTE SPOTS: “Our favorite places include Warwick’s, one of the country’s oldest continuously family-owned and operated bookstores, and George’s at the Cove, a restaurant with oceanfront dining and delicious food. The Museum of Contemporary Art’s La Jolla location just expanded its space and art collection, and its coastal setting is incredible.”
