AGENTS OF CHANGE

The Charitable Foundation continues its mission.

In the world of high-end real estate, The Charitable Foundation of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties stands as a paragon of purpose-driven luxury. But this is not just about closing deals—it’s about opening doors to a brighter future for communities in need.

At the heart of The Charitable Foundation lies a commitment to philanthropy that resonates with the same dedication that Berkshire Hathaway is known for. This elite team of associates and employees has channeled their passion into a mission of giving back, distributing over $6.7 million in grants to organizations that are transforming lives. Yet, their impact transcends financial contributions; it’s a hands-on, heartfelt endeavor that mirrors the meticulous care they bring to their clients.

Mark Paulson, the President of The Charitable Foundation’s Orange County Chapter and Assistant Manager at Berkshire Hathaway’s Laguna Niguel & Mission Viejo offices, epitomizes this ethos. “Our chapter is dedicated to supporting local organizations that deliver essential services to underserved communities—addressing critical issues like homelessness, hunger, health, and education,” he shares.

Ventura County, known for its coastal charm, is another region where The Charitable Foundation’s influence is felt. Magda Nordahl, the dynamic leader of the Ventura County Chapter, speaks with pride about the impact their group has made over the past two decades. “We’ve donated over $109,000 to Ventura County organizations that champion health, education, community well-being, and environmental preservation,” she explains. The annual “Bowling for Charity” event has become a beloved tradition, where the community comes together in friendly competition, all in the name of philanthropy. “Each board member selects a charity to bowl for, making it a spirited yet meaningful gathering that benefits our local non-profits,” Magda adds.

In San Diego, Mary Chaparro leads a chapter that exemplifies The Charitable Foundation’s dedication to diverse causes. Their efforts span from long-term partnerships with organizations like Doors of Change and Just in Time for Foster Youth, which support homeless and at-risk youth, to seasonal drives that spread joy and sustenance to military families. “Our chapter is deeply committed to hands-on volunteerism, embodying the Foundation’s belief that ‘When You Do Good, You Feel Good,’” Mary reflects. The elegance of their giving is matched only by the genuine connections they forge within the community.

Further north, in the refined enclave of Santa Barbara, Joe Parker and his team focus on organizations that serve the elderly, those with disabilities, and the economically disadvantaged. “We hosted a tailgate party complete with a DJ, gourmet food, premium drinks, and even a dunk tank where top agents and community leaders took the plunge for charity,” Joe recounts. But beneath the fun, there’s a serious dedication to making a tangible impact. “With the significant donations we’ve garnered, we’ve been able to offer grants that truly make a difference,” he affirms.

As Mark, Magda, Mary, and Joe illustrate through their work, giving back isn’t just a duty; it’s an art form, crafted with the same care and attention to detail that define the Berkshire Hathaway experience. In their hands, philanthropy becomes a legacy—a lasting testament to the belief that luxury is not only about what you have, but what you give.
