Inside Zimmermann’s new Calabasas boutique.
There’s something undeniably cinematic about arriving at The Commons at Calabasas, where Mediterranean-style colonnades frame sunlit walkways and polished storefronts beckon with quiet sophistication. It’s here, amid the manicured palms and leisurely café culture, that Zimmermann has unveiled its latest boutique — the brand’s eighth outpost in California, and a testament to its enduring love affair with the West Coast.
For Creative Director and Co-Founder Nicky Zimmermann, the opening feels almost predestined. “California has always felt like a natural fit for Zimmermann — the sense of optimism, the light, the energy,” she reflects. That sensibility hums through every inch of the new space: airy yet intimate, reÿned yet joyfully relaxed.
The boutique, imagined in collaboration with Studio McQualter, is an immersion into Zimmermann’s world. Natural light floods through expansive windows, bouncing off terrazzo flooring and ceilings brushed in soft, saturated hues. Thresholds are tiled in mosaics that recall sun-dappled holidays, while art by Stephen Bird and Emily Ferretti punctuates the walls — a gentle reminder of the brand’s Australian roots.
The layout unfolds across three retail rooms, each designed as a moment of discovery. A faux ÿreplace anchors the lounge, where a gleaming brass-and-laminate cabinet mingles with Art Deco armchairs and a reupholstered 1970s sofa. Overhead, a sculptural Noguchi pendant glows softly, its reflection caught in an oversized mirror that expands the sense of space. It’s an environment that balances playfulness with polish, capturing the duality that deÿnes Zimmermann itself.
Accessories are given their own stage: shoes displayed on sculptural shelving, bags arranged with the precision of art objects. Yet the atmosphere is far from austere — instead, it invites lingering. Vintage seating tucked throughout encourages customers to pause, to slip into a silk dress or structured jacket, and to imagine the life that unfolds in Zimmermann’s feminine yet modern silhouettes.
Calabasas, with its blend of luxury and laid-back glamour, feels like the perfect canvas for the brand’s next chapter. Known for its breezy, romantic dresses and sun-kissed resort wear, Zimmermann has become synonymous with a certain effortlessness. Opening here, in the heart of Southern California, speaks to its understanding of how women want to dress: clothes that can transition seamlessly from a garden brunch to a coastal drive, from the languor of the poolside to the polish of an evening soirée.
The boutique debuts with Zimmermann’s Fall RTW 25 collection — a line that fuses sculptural tailoring with delicate details, an interplay of structure and so—ness that mirrors the store’s design itself. Think vivid prints, tactile textures, and silhouettes that move with ease, as if perfectly choreographed to the rhythms of California living.
