Pitti Uomo menswear show, a biannual trade gathering in Italy, continues to draw menswear enthusiasts from around the globe. This stylish event continues to exude an atmosphere of unparalleled sophistication, where vintage timepieces (a strong preference I observed among many attendees this year) seamlessly blend with the elegance of bespoke tailoring.
I had the privilege to delve into three unique watch choices worn by remarkable chaps and the stories behind them. Interestingly, I noticed their preference for watches under the 40mm norm. Whether it’s a cherished family heirloom or a carefully chosen timepiece, their choices prove that smaller watches can still make a bold style statement.
Angel Ramos
A BLEND OF LUXURY CLASSIC TAILORING
For Angel Ramos, the creative mind behind ANGEL RAMOS | New York, design aesthetic revolves around a free and accessible take on luxury classic tailoring. Pitti Uomo has been a significant part of Ramos’ life for over a decade, a place where he connects with industry peers, establishes lasting friendships, and celebrates exciting news, like his recent merger with Michael Andrews Bespoke. Ramos’ everyday watch is the early 2000s 5140j Patek Phillipe perpetual calendar, a piece he cherishes for its perfect 37mm size. The designer believes a watch is the most elegant functional jewelry a gentleman can wear, especially if it comes with a meaningful story.
Stefano Zamuner
VINTAGE-INSPIRED ROCK ‘N ROLL
For this continental dandy, vintage is a source of emotional connection and inspiration for his Mess of Blues menswear line. Zamuner’s designs are heavily influenced by the bold character of Elvis Presley. His Italian background and Venetian craftsmanship play a significant role in bringing his inspiration to life.
Zamuner’s go-to daily watches include a 1979 36mm Rolex Datejust with an indigo dial. He wears it in style, with an appreciation for its unique story. The designer considers a watch an essential part of a man’s wardrobe, not only as a reliable companion but also as a style statement.
Oskar Salomonsson
CURIOUSLY TIMELESS AND MINIMALIST
With a design aesthetic largely timeless and minimalist, Oskar Salomonsson mixes different styles fearlessly. A photographer and menswear enthusiast, Salomonsson’s sartorial savoir-faire is always on par. For Oskar, telling a story with his watch is essential, making vintage pieces a must-have. His favorite go-to watch is the 1970s 25x32mm ref 4014 Rolex Cellini, a timepiece that exudes elegance and charm.
